All those seeking to volunteer in Providence Public Schools must complete a volunteer packet (download and print here) and obtain a BCI (state criminal background check) and deliver these, along with a photo of the front and back of your ID, to the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE).

To obtain a BCI, please go in person to the Attorney General’s office at 4 Howard Avenue, Cranston.  Bring your ID and a credit or debit card in case they charge a small fee (used to be $5, then it was free, so just be prepared).  Please note: There are instructions on PPSD’s and the AG’s website about obtaining your BCI by mail, but this system does not work.  Multiple volunteers have sent in a self-addressed, stamped envelope as instructed, and never received their completed BCI, nor had it successfully delivered to FACE.

Once you have filled out your packet and have your completed BCI and ID copy in hand, you can 1) hand-deliver them to FACE at 379 Washington Street, Providence; 2) mail them to FACE at that address, zip 02903; 3) bring them to the Hope High School Main Office and ask to put them in the inter-departmental mailbag to be sent to FACE.  Number one is the fastest!

Please note: you do not have to have completed this process to go into Hope for one or two visits to a classroom, tutoring, or activity session.  You’ll need to complete it to have regular, ongoing contact with students.
